They don't totally go, however the resulting effect is like sliding on ice. (I'm unclear about the ABS layout power assist etc.)

Wondering if this is a vacuum / power assist issue, I tried putting the car in neutral (engine returns to about 500k RPM) and even at slow speeds (< 5 mph) the brakes tend to give out. The problems arises when I almost get to a complete stop, and then the brakes seem to 'give out'. My jeep is an automatic, so when I press on the brakes, the engine usually drops to about 1k rpm and holds steady regardless of the speed - unless I'm under 10mph. I'll try to describe the problem as best I can:ĭriving & braking on the highway or at fast street speeds is fine - there are no noticeable braking issues.

The brakes have been working for the lifetime of the car, except they have started to fail in the last year or so. I've read a lot about how crappy the system is first of all, however i'm wondering if its easier for me to replace a few components than install a non-abs system.
